How much is that German gentleman in the window?
A GERMAN man living in east Cork is set to star in his own version of Big Brother - living in a shop window. Last snmmer, Wolfgang Lolies from Killeagh hit the headlines when he hitch-hiked around Ireland dressed as Santa to raise awareness about suicide. The stunt proved so successful that the 43-year-old tour operator has decided to take on another challenge. He intends to live in a shop window for a week, to help raise awareness of the thousands of people living in Cork who suffer
. from loneliness.
He has been planning the project
for a few months, however, he has . stumbled on one important issue . he can not f'md a suitable shop
window to stage his live-in. He said that the publicity from the project would help to get people thinking about what they could do to help people living on their own. "There are people living in Cork who can go from one end of the week to the other without talking to a single soul," said Wolf gang.
"We all live busy lives and can tend to forget about those who are
=.~.~.~ in need of a friendly voice. As well as giving people a laugh, this pro
ject will encourage people to take a good look at their own communities to see how they could help," he added. Wolf gang said that the project was not about fund-raising for charity.
"I would not want people to donate money, just their time. 1 just want people to stop and think about
the suffering that people who are lonely go through. Perhaps they could then do something to help within their own communities," he added.
Wolfgang said that he has approached a number of businesses in Midleton and Cork city about using their windows. "So far, 1 have had no success but 1
will keep on trying. "Too often this is an issue which does not get the publicity it deserves," said Wolf gang.
"I want to do my bit to remedy
that," he added.
Anyone who may be interested in helping Wolf gang f'md a suitable venue for the 'live-in' can contact him on 086-3486372.
